Melinda Grace Bates, age 67, passed away on August 22, 2026, two days shy of her 68th birthday. She was born on August 24, 1958, to Earl and Alice (Knupp) Iscrupe.

A nurse by profession and a caregiver at heart, Melinda devoted her life to helping others. She worked for MetroHealth and later Willowood Care Center, where she cared for residents for over 30 years. More than anything, Melinda treasured her family. She especially loved spending time with her granddaughter, River, and the two shared a special bond, including many happy times dancing together. Melinda also adored her long-haired chihuahuas and loved her puppies dearly.

Creative and artistic, Melinda enjoyed diamond art, baking, and crafting. Her creativity could often be seen throughout her home, which served as her own personal gallery filled with the things she made and loved. Whether caring for someone, creating something with her hands, or simply spending time with those closest to her, Melinda brought a generous spirit to the things that mattered most.

Melinda is survived by her beloved husband, Matthew Bates; her loving children, Samantha (T) Murray and Brittany (Ryan) Bates; her cherished granddaughter, River Bates; her mother, Alice Iscrupe; her siblings, Tim Iscrupe, Penny Brown, Sue Kolosky, and Brian Iscrupe; and her beloved dog, Carmen.

She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Iscrupe; and her sweet dog, Isabella.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Melinda’s life Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Waite Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick. A short service will follow at 12:30 p.m. Melinda will be laid to rest at Eastlawn Memory Gardens.
