Melinda S. Hartman

Melinda Sue Hartman, age 47, of Medina, Ohio, entered into eternal life on Friday, September 4, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer and a blessed earthly life rooted in her faith in God and devotion to her family and friends.

Melinda was born in Shelby, Ohio, on May 1, 1979, to Gary and Laura Metzger, the youngest of their three daughters. In her youth, Melinda enjoyed taking dance lessons at Opus II Dance Studio and was a member of Ashland Regional Ballet. Maintaining an active lifestyle was important to Melinda. As part of that, she trained for and completed the Chicago Marathon twice, the Columbus Marathon, the Cleveland Marathon, and the Akron Relay Marathon.

After graduating from Ashland (Ohio) High School in 1997 and working while earning her bachelor’s degree in finance at David N. Myers University, Melinda began her career at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland in May of 2006 and worked there for 20 years, most recently in the role of Enterprise Risk Management Lead.

On October 12, 2012, Melinda married Erik Hartman and together they have raised two strong and brilliant sons, Sonny and Henry. Her boys were her pride and joy and she delighted in cheering them on as they participated in football, wrestling, and baseball. Melinda and her family are parishioners of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, where she volunteered as a Parish School of Religion (PSR) teacher.

Melinda is survived by her loving husband, Erik; cherished sons, Sonny and Henry; mother, Laura Metzger of Ashland; father, Gary (Amy) Metzger of Ashland, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Terry Hartman of Olmsted Township; sisters, Melissa Metzger of Oxford and Melanie (Drew) Plank of Ashland; brother-in-law Kevin (Stephanie) Hartman of North Olmsted; sister-in-law Allison (Jeff Dufala) Gianfagna of Parma; nieces and nephews, Olivia, Ella, Claire, and Ryan Plank; Kayla and Kyle Hartman; and Olivia and Nico Gianfagna; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Melinda was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Otto and Norma Metzger, her maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Jean Wagner, and a cousin, Toby Ramey.

Family and friends will be received for visitation on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Waite Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina, OH 44256.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 1800 Station Rd., Valley City, OH 44280, with Reverend William Thaden officiating. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.waitefuneralhome.com.
