Michael Patrick
Joyce, Jr.
October 22, 1960 – May 29, 2025
Michael Patrick Joyce, Jr., age 64, passed away on May 29, 2025. Born on October 22, 1960, Mike was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend whose presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
For 43 years, Mike worked as a Field Engineer with ABB, Inc. Known for his incredible problem-solving skills, he often referred to himself—accurately—as a self-proclaimed "MacGyver Specialist."
He was a Cleveland Browns season ticket holder, and was known for his quick wit, sarcasm, and love of loud rock music. He was inducted into the Turkey Bowl Hall of Fame—never dropping a single pass, a legacy that speaks to his competitive spirit and love for tradition. His family fondly remembers him as a "fashion icon" in his own right, a man who lived life on his own terms and never missed an opportunity to make someone laugh. Mike's humor and larger-than-life personality will be sorely missed.
Mike's legacy lives on with his devoted wife of 42 years, Nancy (Sharkey) Joyce; children, Brett Joyce (Victoria Shaw), Jocelyn Joyce (Mike Malloy), and Kara Joyce (David Ross); mother, Donna (Joyce) Surmitis (Joseph); siblings, Brian (Tina) Joyce, Becky Joyce, Tim (Bridgette) Joyce, and Kelly (Michael) Lockard; brothers-in-law, Wayne (Marilyn) Sharkey and David Sharkey; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Patrick Joyce, Sr.
The family will welcome guests from 3:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Waite Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Mike's memory by playing your favorite rock song loud, laughing with those you love, and maybe fixing something with duct tape—just the way he would have.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
Please share condolences on Mike's tribute page at www.waitefuneralhome.com.
