Michael Stephen Kalka, 63 years old, of Medina, Ohio, passed away on October 8, 2026. He was born on August 8, 1963 in Euclid, Ohio to the late John and Mary (Gilroy) Kalka.

A lifelong learner with an advanced mind and a passion for discovery, he dedicated himself to exploring both the natural world and the deeper questions of life. As a geologist specializing in hydraulics, he combined his love of exploration with a remarkable commitment to education, earning two master’s degrees. Outside of his professional pursuits, he found solace and discipline in Tai Chi and martial arts, holding a 4th Degree black belt in Kempo karate. He enjoyed and composed his own music and was willing to ponder philosophy with anyone. He loved traveling, discovering new places, and experiencing all that the world had to offer.

He is survived by his daughter, Anna Kalka; brother, Tom Kalka (Pam); former spouse Marina; many cousins; and a host of collected friends and colleagues. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Marina wants to add that Michael had an impeccable taste in the most sophisticated things whether it was about getting an advanced synthesizer, technology, to outstanding items for the house that made it stand out. And Anna wants to add that her Dad was the smartest, coolest, person on the planet.

Family will receive friends on Friday, October 16, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Waite Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina, OH 44256. A celebration of his life will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest with his parents at Resurrection Cemetery in Valley City, Ohio.
