With great sadness, we announce the passing of Michael Douglas Sword, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend who passed away peacefully on August 10, 2024, at the age of 74. Michael was born on October 21, 1949, in Wayne County, West Virginia.
Michael was a man of humor, kindness, and generosity, always bringing a smile to the faces of those around him. He was deeply loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His quick wit and warm personality made him the life of every gathering. Whether it was a funny story, a helping hand, or just a kind word, he was always ready to give of himself to others.
He was married to Jennifer (Webber), his devoted partner of 51 years. Together, they built a loving home filled with laughter and love. Michael was a proud father to Melanie and her husband Ron (Dowczek), a doting Papa to Rachael and her husband Abel (LaRoche), Ronnie (Dowczek), and a cherished great-grandfather to Stetson Michael (LaRoche).
Michael enjoyed spending time with his family, playing Grand Theft Auto at all hours of the night with his grandson Ronnie, building granddaughter Rachael's creations according to her detailed blueprints, and riding his four-wheeler in the mountains of West Virginia. Michael was an avid collector and generous gifter of knives. Michael retired from General Motors where he had worked as a tinsmith for many years.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer, his daughter Melanie (husband Ron), his grandchildren Rachael (husband Abel) and Ronnie, his great-grandson Stetson, sister Beverly, brother Greg (wife Lisa), and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Sword (Noe), father, John R. Sword, and brother, John L. Sword.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held on August 24, 2024, at Unity Free Will Baptist, 6658 Fry Road, Middleburg Heights, OH 44130, beginning at 4:00 PM. Michael will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Still, his legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will live on in our hearts forever.
