On January 13, 2022, Michael Jon Thompson peacefully passed away in his home after a rebellious fight with cancer. Mike was born on April 9 ^th , 1961, and shortly after became the son of Marilyn Jean Gill and Douglass Eugene Thompson. His resilience ran deep, similar to his patience for hunting and fishing. He was a hard worker who loved building things with his hands—like bathrooms and helpful gadgets. Mike never turned down a steak, chocolate cake, or tall Yeti filled with milk and ice cubes. The legacy Mike leaves behind is filled with wit, boldness, grit and gentleness. He will be greatly missed by those that love and know him.

Mike is survived by his dear companion of 29 years, Sharon Murphy; uncle, Ron Thompson; brother, Jerry (Nelly) Fike; nephews, Douglass J Thompson and Eric Lee Haskins; great nieces and nephew, Akyera, Aaliyah, Adisyn, Aizlyn, And Titus Thompson; as well as his companion's family members, Brian Murphy, Kathy Kusalich (deceased); Christopher (Cari) Murphy, Sandra Murphy; grandchildren, Stephen and Seth Murphy; beloved cat and dog, Coco and Frankie.

In addition to his parents, Mike is preceded in death by his brothers, Tom and Douglas Fortner, and his sister, Jamie Lynn Thompson.

Mike's celebration of life will take place this summer and is to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made to the National Cancer Society.
