Cpt Nathan Christian Potter, 35, residing at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina passed away peacefully on 9/29/2026 in his sleep due to a cardiac event. Nathan was born 11/28/1990 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of John Potter and Jenny Potter (nee Zehnder).

Nathan graduated from Strongsville High School in 2008, then went on to University of Toledo, earning a degree in Religious Studies. While attending school, he was in ROTC where he then was commissioned in the US Army Signal Corps.

Alongside his military background, Nathan dedicated several years to federal civil service supporting Army Reserve personnel. From 2016 to 2019, he served as a Department of the Army Civilian (GS) Human Resources Specialist with the 319th Quartermaster Battalion in Twinsburg, Ohio. In 2019, he earned a promotion to the 310th Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC), continuing his civilian career as a senior HR Specialist. In 2021, when the 310th ESC deployed forward to Kuwait, Nathan remained in the rear detachment in his civilian role, stepping up to manage personnel operations as the unit’s civilian HR Officer.

In May 2022, Nathan entered full-time active duty upon joining the Active Guard Reserve (AGR) program as a Civil Affairs officer, reporting to the 448th Civil Affairs Battalion at Fort Lewis, Washington. In August 2025, he relocated to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served with Headquarters Company (HHC), US Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (USACAPOC).

Nathan had many hobbies, most memorable being his love for sailing. While stationed in Washington, he owned a 26-foot Catalina, named “Tom Cat”, that he would sail on the Puget Sound. He also enjoyed hiking, camping, stand-up paddleboarding, and snowshoeing in the mountains. He was skilled in photography, where he captured many of his adventures. In the last months of Nathan’s life, he began painting. His medium was oil on canvas and specialized in the wildlife scenery he so greatly enjoyed.

Nathan was a devout Christian who was well-read in scripture as well as religious history. He demonstrated his faith in action, treating all people the same with dignity and respect.

Remaining to cherish Nathan’s memory are his parents, John and Jenny Potter, grandfather, Ronald J Potter, his brother Nash and spouse, Ivy Potter, and sister, Nora Potter. Also remembered by his brother, Nicholas Potter and spouse Julie Potter, nieces and nephew, Grace Potter, Josephine Potter, and Johnathan Potter.
