Robert "Cary"
Blair
May 28, 1939 – October 5, 2023
Robert Cary Blair, age 84, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at his home on Amelia Island, Florida. He was born on May 28,1939, in Hartford City, Indiana, to parents Robert and Pauline (Lipp) Blair. Cary graduated from Hartford City High School in 1957. He went on to attend college at Butler University where he graduated in 1961 with a B.S. degree in risk management and marketing. During his years at Butler, he played basketball for legendary coach Tony Hinkle. It was also at Butler University's bookstore where he met the love of his life and his future wife Karen while he was working there. After graduating in 1961, he served his country proudly as a part of the US Army Corps working in Intelligence. Upon his return home after his military service, he joined the Westfield Group for the remainder of his working career totaling more than 42 years there. During his tenure at Westfield, Cary was elected Westfield's 13th president in 1988 and in 1991 he rose to the dual position of president and CEO. Upon his retirement in 2003 he became Chairman of the Westfield Group Foundation.
Cary served on a number of company boards and organizations including Foundation President, former board member, and trustee for Leadership Medina County from 1991 to1998. He was also a board member of First Merit Corp. in Akron and Davey Tree Co. in Kent. He was an avid golfer and loved to spend time sharing a round with friends. One of his proudest achievements was relocating the Junior PGA Championship to the Westfield Country Club. He enjoyed watching PGA Tour events and other golf tournaments and loved seeing so many players that had gotten their start while playing in Westfield's Junior tournaments. Cary was a wonderful husband, father, brother, and friend. He was known for his infectious exuberance, his uncommon energy, and his desire to be a 'friend to all.' He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Karen (Bergstrom) Blair; his children, Andrew Blair, Kristen (Wally) Mulholland; sister, Karen Burnett, numerous nieces and nephews along with a lifetime of collected friends.
