Obituary

Robert Lincoln Wheeler Jr., 86, passed away Sunday evening June 29, 2025 at Cleveland Clinic in Fairview, OH, from cancer-related complications. Known for his wit, sharp memory, and zest for life, Robert enjoyed sharing and bringing laughter, even humoring loved ones and caretakers in his final days.  Born June 19, 1939, in Cleveland, OH, he attended John Marshall High School, served in the U.S. Navy traveling the world, and retired after 31 years as a General Motors assembly line laborer and foreman in Parma, OH.

Robert lived vibrantly, sharing his passions with family and friends.  He loved football, hunting, collecting and reading books, woodworking, tall ship modeling, crafting historical rifles and knives, old-west Americana, and admiring folk hero Robin Hood and fictional detective Sherlock Holmes.  In retirement he added collecting and watching movies, flea market shopping, and U.S. travel. He shared his love of woodworking with his young sons and grandsons, including crafting English medieval-themed toys.  A lifelong Browns fan, he attended games since their early days in 1946, including their 1964 NFL championship, and held season tickets for many years.  He also served as head coach for Brunswick Pee Wee youth football in the 1970s and 1980s, inspiring young athletes.

Robert leaves his partner of 9 years Christa Jewell; sons Robert and Russell; grandsons Anthony and Matthew (Russell), Kyle and Jake (Robert); great-granddaughter Lennon (daughter of Matthew and Samantha); beloved dog Sherlock; and many other relatives. Those who passed before him included his parents Robert and Julia (nee Zamen); wife of 54 years Patricia (nee Chodkiewicz); and son James Dean Jones (Beverly Schill Jones).  Per his wishes, no memorial service will be held, and he will be cremated.
