Stanley Joseph
Andrews
July 13, 1933 – July 15, 2025
Stanley J. Andrews (aka Andrzejewski) was an accomplished accordionist attending Berea High School. At the age of 16 he won first place on Birth's Big Broadcast (radio) playing the accordion. This exposure led him to perform many times on Rising Stars Television show shortly after Chennel 5 Began broadcasting in Cleveland. All performances at that time were live and since most family and neighbors did not have television sets at home, many went to nearby taverns in the vicinity to see him perform. Later he performed on Channel 8 after the program moved and started to broadcast live from Parma.
Since the accordion was very popular at the time he was invited to perform at many local stage programs. Modern Music and Dance Studios of Berea and Fairview Park had a large influx of students wanting to learn to play the accordion, so he was employed to teach while still in high school. Through his accordion teaching, Mr. Andrews earned his way through Baldwin Wallace College receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and later a Master of Arts in Educational Supervision and Administration from Western Reserve University. For 32 years he was employed by the Cleveland Public Schools, 25 years in administration. He was principal of Alfred A. Benesch, Garfield, Hazeldell and Waverly Schools.
During the period when Vatican II was making Changes in the celebration of mass, Mr. Andrews volunteered to play the organ at Holy Family Church in Parma. He played for two masses each Sunday for over a year until a full-time organist was employed.
Mr. Andrews' interest in church music was further advanced by returning to Baldwin Wallace College Conservatory of Music to earn a Church Music Organ/Choral Certification. Even as he was a principal, he continued to play the organ in church each Sunday and upon his retirement from public school he devoted full time as organist and choir director. For over 32 years he was an organist first at Our Lady of Grace in Hinckley and later at St. Colette Church in Brunswick.
Also, upon his retirement he continued to teach as a substitute teacher at Holy Family School in Parma and St. Albert the Great school for over 15 years in North Royalton. Due to his vast experience, he was able to substitute at all grade levels and especially in the music area of instruction where most substitutes did not have musical background.
Throughout his life he was always most supportive and assisted by his wife, Patricia, whom he married in 1960.
Family will receive friends on Monday, July 28, 2025, from 10-11am at St. Mary of the woods. A funeral service will follow at 11am. Entombment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Northfield, Ohio. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.waitefuneralhome.com.
