Born in 1941 to Catherine (neé Stuhldreher) and Joseph Vorell, Stanley Joseph Vorell grew up in the west side of Cleveland. Stan's childhood was formed by a staunch foundation in the Catholic Church as well as the passing of a younger sibling and his mother by the time he reached 8. After graduating from St. Edward high school and the passing of his father, Stan joined the Navy.  After his time in the service, he joined industry and took advantage of the GI Bill to go to college.

He soon met his better half, Vicki Jayne Smith from Wellington, Ohio, daughter of Stanley Smith and Lillian Anney Smith. They married in 1967. A bright and extroverted spirit, Stan achieved his undergraduate degree in history from Cleveland State as well as earning two Masters degrees, one history from the University of Cincinnati and the other in education from Cleveland State University. He was an amazing & engaged father to his children Jennifer and Matthew and a loving, playful grandfather to Kayleigh, Tyler, Carter and Leo.

A natural born teacher, Stan, worked in the field of education and impacted many lives during his time in the classroom. Stan took joy in his wife and family. He was never a stranger to a good meal.  Ice cream was his favorite.  He loved music, especially Elvis & Johnny Cash.  He enjoyed telling & hearing a good joke. He was easy to talk with & never met a stranger.  His smile was infectious as was his passion for good conversation, especially for religion, politics, and history with his friend Neil Korey. Stan possessed a lovable sense of humor & went out of his way to never say an unkind word or take an unkind action. In retirement, he and Vicki travelled the globe visiting a myriad of countries with their great friends Dan & Gloria Mikolic. Visits to Cincinnati & St. Cloud, Minnesota were taken regularly to see their kids & grandkids.  He & Vicki volunteered regularly at the Saint Vincent De Paul Ozanam Food Pantry and were active members of St. Joseph's church in Strongsville for decades.

Stan is survived by wife of 58 years, Vicki; daughter Jennifer and her partner Jim Kruspe; son & daughter-in-law, Matthew & Courtney Vorell; his grandchildren Kayleigh Jayne, Tyler Dallas, Carter Joseph, and Leo Asher Stanley; his sisters Charlotte Bauer and Virginia Hanley; as well as numerous nieces & nephews, each of whom he loved dearly.

He is predeceased by his younger siblings James Vorell and Catherine Patricia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Stanley on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 10:00am, with 1-hour prior visitation beginning at 9:00am at St. Joseph Church located at 12700 Pearl Road Strongsville, OH 44136. The Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville at 2:15pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like remembrance gifts to be shared with the St. Vincent de Paul Southwest Ozanam Center 2145 Broadview Rd., OH 44109; a place where Stan shared his time, gifts, and service to the surrounding communities.

A final note, often when running an errand, Stan would disappear for hours.  The errand did get done – eventually – but not before a stop in his beloved Metroparks where he would often take off his shoes for a nice, wade in the Rocky River.  There was always time for a walk in the river, to find a nice flat round rock for skipping, to enjoy the beauty of the sun shining through the leaves, especially in autumn.  May this be Stan's gift to you – that you have time for a walk in the park where God's handiwork abounds.
