Obituary

Stephen F. Burroughs, age 67, passed away peacefully at home after a 2+ year battle with the neurological illness PSP (Progressive Supra-nuclear Palsy). He was born in New Milford, CT to the late Edward S. and Nalou R. (Bruegger) Burroughs on October 26, 1954. A graduate of Clearwater HS, the University of South Florida, and the Certified Hotel Administrator Program, he went on to a long and fulfilling career in Hospitality as a General Manager of hotels, then later as owner/entrepreneur of the locally renowned bar, restaurant, nightclub, and banquet facility in Portage Lakes, Ohio known as The Harbor Inn. A lover of music, travel, golf, and baseball, he supported all Cleveland sports teams, and continued his lifetime passions of motorcycle touring and dirt track racing. Great food, good wine, or nightly beer and popcorn, and of course his beloved chocolate chip cookies (yes Marla, yours were his favorite) were important additions to his well-lived life. He spent every moment he could enjoying the Cleveland MetroParks. Steve followed his father's example of being the kindest, nicest, and most sincere person in the room. He never met a stranger, and all were better for meeting him. Steve was at home virtually anywhere.  A lover of animals, he never missed an opportunity to save a stray turtle on the road.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Lori Burroughs; brother, Paul (Betsy) Burroughs of Clearwater, FL; sisters, Barbara Burroughs of Dunedin, FL and Gail (O'Connor) Minor formerly of Creede, CO; nephews, Dan (Micki) Burroughs and Tom (Nicole) Burroughs; nieces, Erika and Christine Litwin; many brothers-in-law including Chris (Chika) Litwin of Fox Chapel, PA and Dr. Barry A. Litwin of Denver, CO; a host of beloved great nieces and nephews; his devoted feline companions, Indi and Jax; his best friends, Phil, Marla, Thomas, Dave, Michael, John, and Rich, along with a lifetime of collected friends, hotel, and racing families. The extremely special people in Steve's life cover most of the country and are too numerous to mention, but include the Marquez-Potts family: George, Marina - you added the gift of sharing your family, and Luna along with his favorite 'Dude' Milo - you gave him the gift of feeling like a 'grandpa' and he felt not just honored, but blessed and proud to support both of you at every soccer game, race, Fencing event, date out at the park, or Cello recital he could attend.

Steve's family would like to give special thanks to both of his devoted caregivers, Shanice and Bella, along with the entire Hospice of the Western Reserve staff who were wonderful throughout such a difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve's memory would be gratefully accepted to: CurePSP.org, Hospice of the Western Reserve, or Pro Flat Track Rookie Class of 79 and Friends Fund or the fabulous Cleveland MetroParks where he enjoyed every sunset over Lake Erie that he could.

A Private Celebration of Steve's life took place in Florida on October 26, 2022 at sunset with family.
As Steve was known to say, "Go, do good things..."
