Obituary

Steven Marusa
July 12, 1962 – July 7, 2025

On July 7th, 2025, Steven Marusa passed away at home, wrapped in the love of his family—exactly where he belonged.

If you knew Steve, you knew someone who felt everything deeply. A man with a fiercely large heart he never tried to hide. He loved with no hesitation, no cool detachment—just a bold, open sincerity. Whether it was a phone call, a visit, or a quick goodbye in the driveway, he always said, "I love you." Every single time.

He was a storyteller to his core. The kind who made you laugh, roll your eyes, and maybe even tear up, all in the same tale. His laughter was loud and his smile was pure sunlight. You couldn't help but feel better just being around him.

Steve didn't just live life—he performed it. His car was both his stage and his drum set. If you ever pulled up next to him at a red light, chances are you caught him in mid-concert, belting out classic tunes and pounding out drum solos on the steering wheel like he was headlining a sold-out show. No apologies, no shame—just Steve being Steve.

He spent many years fighting the effects of diabetes, but he never let illness define who he was. His focus never shifted away from his greatest joy—his family. He lived to see them happy, to hear their laughter, and to remind them how deeply they were loved.

Steve is survived by his devoted wife, Beverly Marusa, and his four children—Wayne (Sukanda) Myers, Cara Myers (Mark and Layla Sahley), Leslie Marusa, and Christopher Marusa—each of whom carry his stories, his strength, and his immeasurable love. He leaves behind his granddaughter Allison Myers. He also leaves behind his mother, Mildred Gabel, and his brothers Mark Marusa, David (Sharri) Marusa, Jack Gabel, Jeff Gabel, and Joe (Cindy) Gabel, who all have a vault of memories filled with Steve's antics, wisdom, and unmistakable voice. Steve will be reuniting with his late father, Richard Marusa.

While we miss him here, we know where to find him: sitting at a winning slot machine somewhere in the great beyond, smiling that big smile, music playing, tapping out the beat with one hand and waving us over with the other.

He'll be there, waiting—saving us a seat.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Waite Funeral Home, 3300 Center Rd., Brunswick, followed by a Memorial Service at 7 p.m.
