Tex C. Combs, age 88, of Brunswick, Ohio, passed away on August 9, 2026. Born on December 2, 1937, in Cumberland, Maryland, Tex was the youngest of 9 children.

Tex lived a life defined by service, hard work, and devotion to his family and community. He shared 65 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jean (Widdifield) Combs, whom he married on February 11, 1961. Together they built a loving home, raised a large family, and opened their hearts as foster parents to more than 30 children over five decades.

Tex began his career in the interior finishing business before dedicating himself to public service. He served the Brunswick community as a volunteer firefighter for 31 years, and was the last part time Chief of the department. He was a respected Building Inspector and Chief Building Official, serving the City of Brunswick for 30 years. Following his retirement, he continued sharing his expertise as Chief Building Official for North Royalton, and Electrical Inspector for Brecksville/Broadview Heights. An expert in his field, Tex helped write portions of the Ohio Building Code relating to fire safety.

Outside of work, Tex was happiest surrounded by family and friends. He enjoyed coaching Brunswick Youth Sports baseball and CCYF football, mentoring countless young athletes. In his younger years, he loved hunting and later found great joy relaxing around his backyard fire pit with loved ones. An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of the Brunswick United Methodist Church Men's Golf League since its inception. Tex was also a proud Master Mason for 58 years and an active member of Quarry Lodge No. 382 in Berea.

Above all, Tex treasured his family. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Jean; cherished father to Christopher (Karen), James (deceased) (Wendy), William, Thomas (deceased), Melissa “Red,” Kelly, Crystal, Shannon, and Carrie (Justin). Tex was also the proud grandfather of 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, along with too many cousins, nieces and nephews to count. He also leaves behind his treasured Pug, Joy.

Those who knew Tex will remember his quiet strength, generous heart, unwavering integrity, and willingness to help anyone in need. Whether protecting his community, mentoring young people, building safer communities, or welcoming children into his home, Tex lived a life of purpose and compassion. His legacy of service, family, and kindness will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Waite Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery.
