Vivian "Viv" F. Shanafelt, 83 years old, of Medina, Ohio, passed away on April 4, 2026. He was born on November 11, 1942 in Wadsworth, Ohio to the late Herman "Bud" and Grace Winifred (Wall) Shanafelt.

Viv served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He earned his Bachelors in Science and Accounting at Kent State University. He worked as a CPA for Meaden Moore for over 40 years, retiring in 2013.

Viv was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he also served as treasurer.  He enjoyed watching the Indians and Buckeyes. He's only missed 2 Opening Day "Indians" games since 1966.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 ½ years, Ruth L. (Lahr) Shanafelt; children Nancy R. Hennings (Brian) and Matthew J. Mravec (Jason); grand-children Cass and Stephen Hennings; siblings Dennis Shanafelt, Laurel (Shanafelt) Talbott, Peggy (Shanafelt) Jelen and brother-in-law Bill Beck.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Shirley (Shanafelt) Beck.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Waite Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina, OH 44256. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. A private family burial will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville.

The family asks that you wear your favorite Indians or Ohio State attire.
