William
Mccallum
June 21, 1940 – December 22, 2024
William E. (Bill) McCallum, 84, passed away December 22, 2024, after a brief illness. Bill is survived by his children, Lori Moyer (Manny) and David (Christina); siblings David Sovesky, Jerry Sovesky, Renee Shank and Leslie Mulligan; stepsister Joyce Church; grandchildren Blaed and Aidan Bailey (Emily) and Bridget and Patrick McCallum. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Carol Ann (née Fee), brother Glen, mother Irene (née Hasulak), father Hugh Gordon ("Mac") and biological father William Sovesky.
Bill was born on June 21, 1940, in New Castle, PA. After spending his first years in New Castle, Bill moved to Cleveland with his mom and brother. Bill was a 1958 graduate of Shaw High School and served as a medic in the U.S. Army in Germany. Bill married his lifelong sweetheart Carol, whom he met at the age of 13 while attending junior high, in 1961.
After a brief time in East Cleveland, Bill and Carol settled in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, where they raised their family. Bill worked as a salesman in the insurance and trucking industries until retiring. He chose to work part-time at local golf courses and the Medina Antique Mall. His large personality shone through even to the end. Quick witted and gregarious, he often was the life of the party.
A lover of golf from his early 20s, Bill spent much of his leisure time playing or watching the sport. He found camaraderie and brotherhood in the Masons, something he shared with his father and brother. A just and upright Mason, Bill was a Worshipful Master and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Freemason. Bill was an active member in multiple Northeast Ohio Lodges, including Emmanuel, Ashlar and, most recently, Harrisonville Lodge, up until his passing.
Interment will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, OH on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 10:45am. A Masonic Service is also being planned in his honor at the Western Reserve Masonic Community in Medina, OH. The service will be held on Friday, January 31st at 1:00pm. Family and friends are invited to attend both services.
