Obituary

William Abner Nichols III, lovingly known as "Dr. Will," passed away peacefully in the comforts of his home on February 12, 2026. This was one day after his 85th birthday, following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.

Born February 11, 1941, in Medina, Ohio, he was the son of Stanbery and Maxine (Snyder) Nichols. He grew up in the same community where he would later build his life and career. After graduating from Case Western Reserve University, he followed in the footsteps of his father and generations before him by becoming a dentist, practicing for over 40 years in the family dental practice alongside his father and later his daughter.

Dentistry for Dr. Will was more than a profession; it was service. Patients valued not only his skill, but his warmth and encouragement. He founded the Medina County Dental Society and especially enjoyed the parliamentary process and camaraderie of Ohio Dental Society meetings. He was also a member of the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, and the National Dental Honor Society. In addition to his professional commitments, he served as a volunteer member of the Medina County Sheriff's Department.

He is survived by his wife, Michele (Kenealy) Nichols; his son Steve (Sandy); his daughter Jennie (Shawn); his step son Matthew Sailer (Jennifer); and his three sisters: Nina (Gary) Thayer of New Mexico, Carolyn (David) Hoeschele of New Jersey, and Beth (John) Boyd of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents and his cousin, Alan Houseman, whom he considered his brother.

Will had a lifelong love of learning and thoughtful conversation, always encouraging others to grow and try new things. He loved piano music, sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, traveling, time on his tractors, and enjoyed good food, especially desserts with a focus on pie.

An Open House celebrating his life will take place from 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM on Saturday, April 18, at Waite Funeral Home, 765 N Court Street, Medina, OH 44256.

A private family burial will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery in Medina, Ohio.
