Obituary

Diane L. Ganyard, 59, a lifelong resident of Medina County, passed away Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, in Medina.

She was born Feb. 9, 1949, in Medina. Diane graduated from Medina High School in 1967. She served in the Army from 1973 to 1977, including 2½ years in West Berlin during the Cold War. She joined the Medina Police Department on Dec. 17, 1979, becoming the first female officer and was promoted to sergeant in 1984. Diane belonged to the Medina County Women of the Military and International Association of Women Police.

She is survived by her parents, Calvin A. and Arleen (nee Pursley) Ganyard; brothers, Ric Ganyard of Middleburg Heights, Jim (Mary Ellen) Ganyard of Medina and Charles (Rose) Ganyard of South Carolina; nieces and nephews, Christopher, Kimberly, Ryan, Matthew and Courtney; many aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins.

Service: 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court St. Dr. Teresa Dulyea-Parker will officiate.

Burial: Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.

Visiting hours: 2 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
