Donald E. Williams, Sr. 91, passed away quietly on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at Hospice in Medina, surrounded by his family.
Don was born on October 22, 1925, to Raymond Donald Williams and Carrie (Barth) Williams of Akron OH.
Growing up in Akron, Don left High School to join and proudly serve in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific. After the War, he attended Kent State, graduating with an accounting degree. In 1949, he married Doris (Ritz), his wife of 67 years. Their only child, son Donald II, was born in 1953.
Settling in Medina in 1956, he founded and operated Don Williams & Associates, Inc., a successful Manufacturer's Rep agency, until selling it upon his retirement in 1990. He was one of the principals who formed the State Bank of Medina in 1974 on the Square, which was later merged into BancOhio Corp. He was one of the developers of Regal Arms, the very first condominium project in Medina County, in the early 70's; along with many other business and investment ventures in the Medina area. Don was a proud member of the VFW and The American Legion, and belonged to the United Methodist church.
Following retirement, Don and Doris relocated to Sarasota, FL, for many years, and travelled extensively with their Airstream trailer group throughout North America. In 2012, they returned home to Medina.
Don is survived by loving wife Doris, son Donald II and Elizebeth (Medina), granddaughter Adrienne (Sarasota), grandson Donald III, and great-grandson Maksim Donald. Also surviving are brothers William and George, and sister Emma Lou (Wells). He was preceded in death by brother Carl, and sister Norma (Brandle).
A "Celebration of Life" was held with family in August 2016 which Don was able to attend and enjoyed tremendously. Interment will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville 44273. Kindly meet at 12:45 P.M. at the welcome center. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Medina County, 5075 Windfall Rd., Medina, OH 44256.
