Bernard "Bernie" H. Smith, Jr., age 64, passed away Monday, September 4, 2017 after fiercely battling cancer. He was born to Bernard Smith, Sr. and Valerie (Buk) in Cleveland on June 2, 1953. He graduated from Medina High School in 1972. Bernie proudly served our community as a Fire Fighter and Fire Inspector for Medina Township for 34 years. He was also a member of the Medina Township Hazmat Team. In addition, Bernie was a member of the Medina Fire Association and in his recreation he enjoyed working on cars and anything else that would challenge his mechanical skill and curiosity.

Bernie is survived by his wife of 15 years, Angela (McLemee) Smith; children Chris, Ana (Martha) and Lisa (Tano) Ochoa; grandchildren Tristen Ochoa, Cande Gomez, Kevin Mixon; and siblings Paul (Nicki) Smith, Bryan (Maggie) Smith, James (Larry) Smith, Christine Wachs, Maureen (Mark) Roberts and Kathleen Theobald.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Valerie (Buk) Smith and father, Bernard Smith, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Waite and Son Funeral Home 765 N. Court St. Medina, OH 44256. Visitation will precede the funeral from 4:00–6:00 p.m.
