Obituary

Barbara Ann Korbas, age 77, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024. She was born on July 27, 1946, in Cleveland, the daughter of Ralph and Georgianna Rice. She was a graduate of Maple Heights High School (1964) and continued to enjoy outings with her former classmates. She went on to complete nursing school. Nursing was a passion for her, and she dedicated her professional career to caring for others. She often shared stories of challenges and triumphs from her years caring for patients at Marymount hospital with her long-time friend, Gloria Recupero. Barb was quick to provide medical advice and support to her children, grandchildren, and friends. She spent many days at Pymatuning Lake with her beloved late husband, David Korbas. They valued time hosting family and friends at their cottage, fishing and watching fireworks from their pontoon boat, and browsing local flea markets. Barb enjoyed reading science fiction and watching rom-coms, and she cherished moments with loved ones, often sharing laughter over meals. She loved her furry companion, Dolly, and indulged her with treats of pizza crusts and peanut butter. Dolly is sharing our grief and confusion over our sudden loss.

Barb (mom/grandma/friend) provided stability and support to her family and friends despite her many life-altering challenges. We knew that she had our backs and was our biggest champion, and this sustained us in the past and will help us continue now. Her guidance to us was always "have fun but be safe!"

She leaves behind her son, Thomas Simon and his wife, Mary Simon, of Atlanta; daughter, Katherine Ehas of Medina; and stepdaughter, Angelica Korbas, of Parma. She is also survived by 5 beloved grandchildren: Jacob and Giana Simon; Olivia Ehas and Garrett Ewing; and Joseph Korbas; her sister, Donna Nanni and nephews Bill and Bob Nanni; and Ralph and Richard Rice; and her former son-in-law Richard Ehas.

Family and friends may call from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N Court Street, Medina, OH 44256. Barb's favorite color was blue. Please consider wearing shades of blue in her honor during the visiting hours if you can join us.
