Obituary

David Anthony Selby, age 84, passed away unexpectedly at home, surrounded by his loving family on July 9, 2024, in Medina, Ohio. He was born on August 8, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Albert W. and Anna Marie (Sviatek) Selby.

David graduated from Baldwin Wallace College with a degree in Chemistry, he went on to serve his country proudly as a member of the United States Marine Corps. After the war he went into a career as a Sales Representative.  He was proud to be an active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church for over 26 years. He was also a member of the Knights Council #4168. David enjoyed playing card games with friends, trout fishing, and was an excellent marksman. He loved target shooting and was extremely proficient at anything he put his mind to. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed every holiday gathering, and celebration. But he especially loved time spent with his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.   A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Joan Ann (Stanonise) Shelby; his three children, Cynthia A. (Keith) Cox, Daniel J. (June) Selby, and Dale M. Selby; four grandchildren, Adam Selby, Jennifer Cox, Marta and Colin Selby; and his great granddaughter, Leah Shadrick; his brother, Dennis (Judy) Shelby; and a lifetime of collected friends.

David is preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Shirley) Selby.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N Court Street, Medina, Ohio 44256. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father John Mulhollan and Deacon Bob Cavanaugh will officiate. David will be interred immediately following the mass at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Medina, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to: St. Vincent DePaul Society, 606 E Washington St, Medina, OH 44256 in David's memory.
