Jerome "Jerry" T. Linnen, Sr. passed away at age 83 after battling several health challenges. Jerry passed away quietly on July 10, 2021 in his home in Westfield Center, Ohio surrounded by loved ones.
Jerry was born August 25, 1937 in Brady Lake, Ohio to Benedict J. and Celia A. Linnen. He was the youngest of six and was predeceased by his older siblings Joseph, Rosemary, James, William and Nancy. He graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School in 1955. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After honorably serving his country, he returned home and married his high school sweetheart Joan (Visca), his wife of 61 years.
After attending Kent State University, Jerry found great success in the insurance field working for most of his professional career for the Westfield Companies. During his tenure, he served as Executive Vice President for Westfield Life Insurance Company. He continually worked to improve his knowledge and understanding of the insurance industry and earned many advanced certifications and recognitions.
Jerry, known for his outgoing, positive and friendly personality, was an avid golfer, enjoying many rounds of golf over the years with his friends at Westfield Country Club and Vanderbilt Country Club in Naples, Florida. Proud of his Irish heritage, Jerry was a devoted fan of Notre Dame Football.He was also a dedicated runner and, as an Independence Day tradition, he could be found giving it his best in the annual Medina County 10K race. Later, his exercise interests turned to walking and could frequently be seen energetically walking the streets and trails of Westfield Center.
Jerry was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Medina, Ohio. He also attended and generously supported St. Agnes Catholic Church in Naples, Florida.
Jerry is survived by his wife Joan and children: Colleen (Stan) Hilton, Jerome "Jay" (Michelle) Linnen, Jr., Jeffrey (Nancy) Linnen and Stephen Linnen; eleven grandchildren: Maria, Theresa, Grace, Michael, Andrew and Clara Linnen; James (Emma) Hilton; Ryan (Alicia) Marr, Kirsten and Megan Linnen; Anneliese Linnen and three great-grandchildren: AddyKate and Ellie Hilton; and Presley Marr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 17, 2021 at St. Francis Xavier Church, 606 E. Washington St., Medina, OH 44256. A private interment with military honors will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
