Obituary

We are sad to announce the passing of Rudolph John Polz, 86, on Saturday, November 4th, 2023. Rudy was surrounded by family in his home when he passed. We are confident that Rudy is resting in Jesus' arms as he never went a day without speaking to Him.

Rudy was preceded in death by his mom, Stephanie (Avsec), his father, Rudolph Polz, his brother, Robert Polz (Joanne Rinella), and his wife, Patricia (Olexa) of 51 years, all of whom he is now reunited with in heaven. He is survived by his daughter, Mary and son, Rudy.

Rudy was born on July 19th, 1937. After graduating from Maple Heights High School in 1955, he went on to study accounting at Ohio University. Rudy became a valued employee of 35 years at Blue Cross Blue Shield as an audit manager.

Rudy married Pat in 1966. Together they built a home in Brunswick, Ohio where they raised their children. Both a loving husband and caring father, Rudy never missed a chance to support his kids in their endeavors.

As an active member of Saint Ambrose church, Rudy taught PSR classes to special needs kids and served as a eucharistic minister. He modeled integrity, kindness, respect, and was always slow to anger.

Rudy could boast of having many more friends than most. From the old neighborhood, to grade school, high school, college, and his career at Blue Cross. Extended family was also greatly valued by Rudy. His cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews were loved and cherished. He formed lifelong bonds with others through countless card parties, rounds of golf, and fishing trips to Canada.

Once retired, Rudy and Pat enjoyed travels to Las Vegas as well as spending the winter months in Winterhaven, Florida, studying the Cleveland Indians. Rudy took the photos and Pat got them autographed. He also cherished the time with each of his grandchildren: Claytin, Madalyn, Caitlyn, and Jack. "Gampy," as he was known to his grandkids, is remembered by his generous, funny, and calm spirit. His frequent saying, "don't get mad," will live on with his family.

Rudy's legacy also lives on through thousands of photos he had taken throughout his life. He never missed a chance to capture a memory. This library of photos and stories clearly demonstrates Rudy's devotion to his family and friends and will forever be cherished.

The family will welcome guests from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at St. Ambrose Catholic Parish, 929 Pearl Road, Brunswick. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am. Rudy will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Valley City.
