For some families, green burial reflects a desire to care for the earth. For others, its simplicity and natural return to the earth simply feel right.

• A biodegradable casket, shroud, or other natural container
• Avoiding a concrete vault or liner where cemetery rules allow

The emphasis is on simplicity, natural materials, and reducing environmental impact.

Green burial options can vary depending on the cemetery or burial ground, local requirements, and the type of burial you choose. Not every cemetery permits the same materials or practices, so it helps to understand what is available before making decisions.

A service can still be personal

Choosing a green burial does not limit how you can gather or remember someone you love.

Families may choose a visitation, memorial, graveside gathering, celebration of life, or another form of remembrance before burial. Services may be held at our Medina or Brunswick locations or in another place of meaning, such as a church, event venue, park, or other setting that reflects your family and your loved one.

Other environmentally conscious options:

• Natural organic reduction ("human composting"  or "terramation") uses a controlled process to transform the body into soil. It is legal in several states, but not currently authorized in Ohio. If this option is important to your family, we can help you understand what may be available outside the state.
