Military funeral honors

Eligible veterans may receive military funeral honors at no cost to the family. At a minimum, the ceremony includes a two-person uniformed military detail, the playing of Taps, and the folding and presentation of the American flag. Additional honors may be available depending on the veteran’s service, eligibility, and available resources.

Our team can help request military funeral honors and coordinate those details as part of the funeral or memorial service.

VA burial and memorial benefits

Veterans, service members, and certain spouses or dependents may be eligible for burial in a VA national cemetery and for other burial or memorial benefits. Eligibility depends on the veteran’s service history and discharge status.

Depending on eligibility and circumstances, benefits may include:

• Burial in a VA national cemetery
• A government headstone, marker, or medallion
• A burial flag
• A Presidential Memorial Certificate
• Certain burial, plot, interment, or transportation allowances

Burial in a national cemetery

Eligible veterans and certain family members may qualify for burial in a VA national cemetery. Families can request eligibility at the time of need, and veterans may also apply in advance for a pre-need eligibility determination.

If burial in a national cemetery is chosen, our team can help coordinate with the National Cemetery Scheduling Office and provide the required service documentation.

Burial allowances and financial benefits

Some families may qualify for VA burial, plot or interment, and transportation allowances. Eligibility and filing deadlines vary depending on factors such as whether the death was service connected and whether the veteran was receiving VA care.

We can help you understand which documents may be needed and direct you to the appropriate VA resources.
