When a family chooses cremation, it’s natural to have questions about what happens next.

Where will my loved one go? Who will care for them? Where will the cremation take place?

At the Waite Cremation Center in Brunswick, we believe families should be able to get clear answers to those questions and feel confident about the care their loved one will receive.

What does on-site cremation mean?

Not every funeral home has its own crematory. When a funeral home does not have a crematory on-site, your loved one may be transferred to another facility for the cremation itself. At Waite Funeral Homes, our crematory is located on the same property as our Brunswick Funeral Home. Your loved one remains in our care throughout the traditional cremation process, and the same team guiding your family is there to answer questions along the way.

Why does continuity of care matter?

When someone you love dies, there is already a lot to process. Knowing where your loved one is and who is caring for them can remove one more uncertainty. Our on-site crematory allows us to provide continuity of care throughout the process, with clear identification procedures and a documented chain of care from beginning to end.

Can families be present?

Yes. Families may choose to be present at the beginning of the cremation; this is called a Witness Cremation. For some, being present is an important part of a religious or cultural tradition. For others, it provides a meaningful final moment of goodbye. And some families prefer not to be present at all. We’ll explain what to expect and work with you to understand any traditions or wishes that are important to your family.

Can we still have a service if we choose cremation?

Absolutely. Choosing cremation does not determine how you remember or honor someone you love. Families may still choose a visitation, funeral, memorial service, celebration of life, private goodbye, or another type of gathering before or after cremation.

The Waite Cremation Center also includes a private gathering space for families who prefer a smaller, more intimate setting. Services may also be held at our Medina or Brunswick funeral homes or somewhere else meaningful to your family.
